A virtuoso couple

For this recording Margit-Anna Süss and Hans-Jörg Schellenberger put together items of music from three centuries and five European countries in a richly varied kaleidoscope of comical elements and pure melodic beauty with virtuoso caprices and romantic melodies to create a very felicitous combination. The Ommagio a Bellini for cor anglais and harp by the Italian composer Antonio Pasculli and the Seven Bagatelles for oboe by the Englishman Gordon Jacob, a Bach Siciliano next to a Iberian-inspired revolving Entr’acte by Jacques Ibert, an early Prélude for harp by Serge Prokofiev next to an early Mozart Andante, and finally the expansive duo of Variations on Rossini’s The Siege of Corinth with which the early romantic Frenchman Henri Brod, a brilliant oboist, really made his presence felt – these are some of the gems, both little and large, which fill this delightful hour of chamber music.
